DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS OF GENERAL CAUSES OF METABOLIC ALKALOSIS

Differential diagnosis of general causes of metabolic alkalosis are : 
-administration of alkalinising agents or alkali due to renal insufficiency 
( the alkalinising agents include lactate / citrate)
-antacids ( milk alkali syndrome)
-massive transfusion of plasma substitute or blood
-ingestion of glucose after starvation 
-large dose of a non re absorbable anionic antibiotics ( penicillin / carbenicillin) 
-non parathyroid hypercalcemia 
-multiple myeloma 
​-bone metastases
