DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS OF INTRA ABDOMINAL CAUSES OF ABDOMINAL DISTENTION DUE TO ADYNAMIC ILEUS

Differential diagnosis of intra abdominal causes of abdominal distention due to adynamic ileus are : 
-inflammation of the peritoneum 
-penetrating trauma 
-postoperative trauma 
-vascular insufficiency 
-bacterial infection 
-accumulation of bile, gastric content due to perforated ulcer and pancreatic enzyme due to acute pancreatitis) 
-strangulation 
-extramural due to compression of mesenteric vessels or intramural due to distention resulting from mechanical ileus
-mesenteric artery or mesenteric embolus 
-extraperitoneal irritation - renal colic, pyelonephritis, perinephric abscess, psoas abscess and retroperitoneal hemorrhage
