Differential diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia causing microcytic anemia are :
-deferoxamine over treatment -insufficient supply of iron -loss of iron ( ulcer, neoplastic, hemorrhoids, anglodysplasia, genital bleeding in women,hemoglobinuria, paroxysmal nocturnal hemosiderinemia, artificial cardiac valves, loss of blood from nose or oropharynx, surgical post operative, or traumatic blood loss and blood loss with Osler's disease) -insufficient resorption of iron ( enteritis, intestinal tuberculosis, inflammatory bowel disease, worm infestation, excretory pancreatic insufficiency, non tropical sprue, chronic diarrhea, gastric or intestinal resection) -increase requirement of iron ( pregnancy, growth, lactation period or hereditary )
