Differential diagnosis of low protein ascites ( protein < 2.5 g/l) transudate causing grade III ascites are :
-obstruction of the inferior vena cava -nephrotic syndrome -hepatic metastases -malignant tumours -Budd – Chiari syndrome -portal vein thrombosis -hypothyroidism -hepatic failure -cirrhosis
