Differential diagnosis of respiratory acidosis ( cardio pulmonary thoracic causes ) are : 
-severe pneumonia
-cardiac arrest
-inhalation of smoke 
-kyphoscoliosis
-inadequate mechanical ventilation 
-trauma to the chest
-hemothorax 
-pneumothorax
-massive pulmonary embolism 
-interstitial fibrosis 
-adult / infant respiratory distress syndrome 
-severe pulmonary edema
