Differential diagnosis of respiratory alkalosis ( general causes ) are : 
-pregnancy
-pain 
-anxiety
-voluntary hyperventilation 
-hypoxia
-salicylate poisoning 
-brain tumor
-trauma to the head
-fever
-recovery phase of metabolic acidosis
-cerebrovascular accident
-infection of the central nervous system 
-gram negative sepsis
-hepatic insufficiency 
-heat stroke
-heat exposure
-mechanical ventilation 
-drugs - aminophylline, medroxyprogesterone, progesterone and nicotine
