Abatement is a reduction in degree, amount or intensity of an activity. Abatement in environmental economics is a term used to describe a reduction in the emission of pollutants. 
 
Behavioural abatement is consumption activities or changes in the lifestyle of consumers.
 
Technical abatement means a measure involving the production of the activities of the firm which include introduction of new or amendment of existing processes or technologies.
